Do you think we're crazy yet...? :)

NOW!  All of the de-construction is finally finished and we can begin re-building!  It's starting to get exciting all of a sudden.  Wish we didn't have to work for a living so we could just play all day. :)

Bret just can't wait to get goin' on this deal.  He's outside sandblasting the frame in between our Senior Photo Sessions this afternoon. LOL.

Like A Roller Coaster Ride...!

We had just a couple of hours very early this morning to work on Peggy Sue.  We got started taking her skin off.  I told Bret, "It's just like riding a really big roller coaster.  SO scary and SO exciting all at the same time!"  :)  Here are the latest pics... poor girl...

Color Scheme for Exterior Paint??

This is my current idea of how I would like the outside of Peggy Sue to look when all finished.  I (very quickly) threw this together in Photoshop just to see if Bret and I both liked it, and... we do!  Will see if we change our minds before we get to the actual paint job but so far, this design and colors are winning. :)  Did I tell you how much fun we're having?!?!?

We're Committed Now (or, maybe we SHOULD be 'committed' now)!

Last night, Bret and I got all of the windows and the door out of our little trailer.  It all seems like we're committed now! :)  We have purchased all of the wood for re-modeling the inside.  I have ordered the vinyl for the floor and the laminate for the countertops.  Can't wait to get them and post pictures of my ideas (there are many floating around in my head, believe me...).

Shelter In the Time of Storm

We have a whopper of a storm here last Wednesday!  Blew our flagpole right out of the ground!!  I just kept looking out the window at Peggy Sue sitting out there, hoping that she was withstand the storm.  Bret had already been talking about putting in a taller, wider garage door so we could have her inside to work on her this winter.  After that storm, we went to Menard's the next night and got everything we needed to make it happen.  We spent all day Saturday working on it with  a lot of help from our son, Josh.  And by evening time, she had a safe place to weather the winter.  NOW.... we can start working....!  :)

We finally got her inside! :)

...of course, it took putting in a whole new garage door to do it...

In Search Of...

The first thing we really need to find right away is a window to go back in the space that someone along the way took it out of to put in an ugly old air conditioner.  :)  The size of the hole is 24.5" x 14.5"  ... Just in case anyone out there has one that size or knows where we can find one?  :)
Need one that looks something like this, please.... and THANKS!

Rip 'Er Out!

So, last night (September 10th), after we both finished working for the day, it was only about 95 degrees outside so we decided that we would just go out and tear out a little bit of stuff and see what we were up against.  Several hours later, this is what we had....

Now the Not-So-Pretty....

NOW... we come to the part that makes people think we're crazy... :)
The inside Was. A. Mess.

There, still, were some great features.  An adorable turquoise stove top complete with vented hood.  Cute aluminum Back Splash that really does go all the way around the kitchen area.  You just can't see it all till we get some crazy stuff tore out of there.  A Darling enamelware sink...ok, you may have to use your imagination on some of this.  Just wait -- You'll see what I see in a few months!

Fun Findings

When we finally got all of the 'stuff' (won't go into any details here...) out of Peggy Sue, we began to look her over more closely and found some really cool things:

* All of the original Comet Decals were still on her.
* All of the original outside lights, tail lights, etc. were still intact...Not even one broken lens.
* There was an original Certificate of Standards still taped to the inside of the closet/potty door.

Ain't She A Beaut?

We brought her home on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.  A very good friend of ours declared that she can tell if campers are boys or girls and that ours was a boy...we needed a boy name.  We thought and thought but came up with nothing.

We decided that we wanted to re-do the interior like a 1950's Diner we had visited in Mt. Ayr, Iowa called Peggy Sue's.  Bret's mom's name was Peggy Sue and oh...how she would have loved this project!  This kind of thing was right up her alley.  She would have been right in the middle of it all!  We determined that our friend Lisa, alas, was wrong about the gender of our trailer.  She was indeed a girl and would be called 'Peggy Sue' in honor of  Bret's mom and the best mother-in-law anyone could ever have.

In the Beginning....

September, 2013 Bret came home and said he had found a vintage camper that I might like. And, BOY! ... did I. We purchased her and brought her home two days after we found her. The man that we bought her from thought we had absolutely lost our minds. As we were pulling out of his place with it, he waved to us and shouted, "Good Luck!"
